The Leaf represents the future of transportation, or maybe it’s merely an EV that’s fine around town but dies after about 84 miles on a charge. SV and SL models have greater battery capacity, giving them 107 miles of range—which is tops among compact EVs—but drivers might still be haunted by anxiety over that limited range. After all, it can take eight hours to fully recharge its lithium-ion batteries. The Leaf works as a second car for some, but it’s a poor only car for almost everyone else.
